Žakanje is a municipality in Karlovac County .

The municipality includes the villages of Breznik Žakanjski, Brihovo, Bubnjaraćki Brod, Bubnjarci, Donji Bukovac Žakanjski, Ertič, Gornji Bukovac Žakanjski, Jadrići, Jugovac, Jurovo, Jurovski Brod, Sela, Žjakišan, Jurovski Brod, Selajakan, Mala Paka, Sincina, Sinci, Sinci, Sjakina, Mala Paka. Stankovci, Velika Paka, and Zaluka Lipnička and Žakanje.

The Simunec Castle , called Simunvrh , stood on a hill above the village in the 17th century . Petar Zrinski gave it to Baron Gaspar Colaric in 1651 . Over the centuries it changed hands many times among the noble noble families. The last verifiable owner was the Vuk family , descendants of the family of Vuk Krsto Frankopan and the poet Ana Katarina Frankopan-Zrinski .

Žakanje is the birthplace of the composer Božidar Širola .
