Ana Katarina Zrinski (born Frankopan ; * around 1625 in Bosiljevo ; † November 16, 1673 ) was a Croatian poet.

Life

Born as the daughter of Prince Vuk Krsto Frankopan Tržački, General von Karlovac , and Ursula Imhofer, Ana Katarina married the twenty-year-old Count Petar Zrinski on October 27, 1641 at the age of 16 ; they lived mainly in Ozalj Castle (northwestern Croatia ). The couple had a son ( Ivan Antun ) and three daughters ( Jelena , Judita Petronila and Aurora Veronika).

Ana Katarina wrote about 160 poems in Croatian that were only made available to the public in 1985. She turned to Pietism , and two prayer books written by her (e.g. The Companion ) were printed in Venice. Together with other poets, the so-called “ Ozalj Circle ”, she has a prominent position in Croatian literary history.

After her husband Petar Zrinski and her brother Fran Krsto Frankopan, who was seventeen years younger than her, were beheaded in Wiener Neustadt in 1671 as part of the Zrinski-Frankopan conspiracy and its suppression by the Habsburg monarchy , the poet was beheaded in the remaining two years up to hers Death with her daughter Zora Veronika interned in various monasteries, most recently in Graz ; her daughter was later separated from her.

Ana Katarina Zrinski died on November 16, 1673 in the Dominican convent in Graz.
