history
Archaeological finds point to a prehistoric settlement of the municipality. Ancient tumuli and Roman graves can be found in the village and its surroundings . The first documentary mention comes from 1334 , when Ivan Arhiđakon Gorički named the parish of St. Mavro in Bozilo in the statute of the Zagreb Archdiocese. One of the main attractions is the Frankopanenburg (also called the castle) with its park. This medieval fortress of Bosiljevo has an irregular layout. Originally, the castle was owned by the noble families Frankopan (1461–1671), Erdödy (1684–1710) and Auerspergi (from 1740.). In the castle chapel there is a baroque style altar. After 1825, the complex was rebuilt as a residence in the Romanesque style for the Austrian Field Marshal Laval Graf Nugent von Westmeath (1777–1862), who also died here. This castle is now orphaned and in poor condition.
From 1860 to 1948 Bosiljevo was an independent municipality. Independence was abolished with the establishment of the State of Yugoslavia , but restored after Croatia's independence in 1993 . Two volunteer fire brigades are currently active in Bosiljevo. The first in Bosiljevo was launched in 1934 by Matija Bukovac . The second volunteer fire brigade in Grabrk was founded in 1951.
economy
Bosiljevo's economy is dominated by agriculture, with the focus on sheep and cattle breeding due to the mountain climate. Bosiljevo has a post office, two shops, a pub and the “Bosiljevo” restaurant in Bosanci on the old trunk road. In addition, there are two larger industrial companies in the municipality, a textile factory "Maier-Textil" in Bosiljevo and the sawmill "Korenić" in Orišje . The traffic connection of the new highway ( Zagreb - Rijeka - Split ) should increase the economic importance of the whole region.
