The Dobra is a river in central Croatia . It rises near the village of Gornja Dobra in the Gorski Kotar area . Right at the beginning of Ogulin , the Dobra disappears in an approximately 16-meter-high cave entrance ( Ponor ), then flows through the Medvedica cave system, emerges after 16 kilometers as a karst spring again to the surface and flows into the Kupa after a total of 124 kilometers near Karlovac .
The Dobra mostly flows through a karst area . The nearby Plitvice Lakes are a very important karst phenomenon in Croatia . During floods or when the underground waterways become blocked, the water can accumulate up to the top of the Ogulin cave entrance. Typical of the Dobra as well as other karst rivers is its clear, emerald green shimmering water. In summer the maximum temperature of the Dobra is over 24 ° C in some places.
