Božidar Kunc

Božidar Kunc (* 18th July 1903 in Zagreb ; † 1. April 1964 in Detroit , Michigan ) was a Croatian , later in the USA living composer and pianist .

Life

Kunc was born in Zagreb in what was then Austria-Hungary . Coming from a musical family, he wrote his first compositions at the age of 12. In the Kingdom of Yugoslavia he studied at the Music Academy in Zagreb, where he led a piano class from 1929 and the opera studio from 1941. From 1951 he was a teacher in New York City and accompanied his sister, the soprano Zinka Milanov , who had already moved there before the Second World War , on her tours and concerts. He composed a total of around 90 works, including two overtures , two piano and two violin concertos, chamber music works, piano pieces, cantatas and songs .
