Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice is an American sitcom based on the Paul Mazursky film of the same name . The short-lived television series was produced by Screen Gems for the US broadcaster ABC . The actors were Anita Gillette , Robert Urich , David Spielberg and Anne Archer . The then ten-year-old Jodie Foster appeared as the daughter of Ted and Alice. In the film, the two had a son.

Since the film unique sexual nature was he was rated R . For the series, the content had to be defused and the characters were significantly weaker. The series was withdrawn from the program after just seven episodes; the rest of the episodes did not run until 1984 on the cable station USA Network .
