Bob Gardiner (Animator)

James Robbins "Bob" Gardiner (born March 19, 1951 in Torrance , † April 21, 2005 in Grass Valley , California ) was an American animator .

Life

Gardiner grew up as one of six siblings in Southern California and Reno , Nevada. He attended the California College of the Arts in Oakland. He lived in Oregon for ten years and moved to Grass Valley in 1991, where he died and was buried in 2005. Two daughters come from a relationship with Kara Evenson.

Gardiner was active in many ways: As a clay animator, he created commercials and in 1974 with Will Vinton the short film Closed Mondays , for which he was awarded an Oscar . Since he used plasticine for his animation instead of modeling clay, he called his films "sculptimations". Gardiner also performed as a musician and wrote sketches with Mason Williams for two television programs for the Smothers Brothers . He also worked as a painter. Gardiner committed suicide in 2005.
