Bob John
Robert Frederick "Bob" John (born February 3, 1899 in Barry , Wales , † July 17, 1982 ibid) was a Welsh football player and football coach.
life and career
John began his career at Barry Town and Caerphilly before moving to Arsenal in January 1922 for the equivalent of around € 1,100 . He made his debut on October 28, 1922 against Newcastle United . John played in the left midfield position. His strengths were his good passing game and tackling strength. With the Gunners, the Welshman won the English Championship five times and the English Cup twice. For a long time he was the man with the most appearances for Arsenal. Internationally, Bob John played a total of 15 times for the Welsh national football team . He made his debut on March 17, 1923 against Scotland . In 1938, John ended his playing career and became an assistant coach at West Ham United . John later coached Torquay United . After his coaching career in Torquay , the former midfielder was briefly coach at Cardiff City . He ended his career in football as a Cardiff City scout. Bob John died in his hometown of Barry in 1982 at the age of 83 .
