Bob Zurke

Robert Zurke (* 17th January 1912 in Detroit ; † 16th February 1944 in Los Angeles ) was an American jazz - pianist , composer and bandleader .

Among other things, he wrote boogie-woogie arrangements and cast the role of pianist for Bob Crosby after Joe Sullivan from 1936 to 1939 (his “first job”). In 1939 he was voted the best pianist of the year by Down Beat readers. With his Delta Rhythm Band , which existed from 1939 to 1941, he achieved his only top 30 hit in the charts at the end of June 1940 with the Don Raye song "I Love You Much Too Much". In his band u. a. Sterling bose ; The band singer was Evelyn Poe.

With his own groups, however, he had no success. That is why from 1941 he only appeared as a soloist. He died at the age of 32.
