Bocages wall lizard ( Podarcis bocagei ) is a lizard from the genus of lizards , in the northwest region of the Iberian Peninsula endemic is.
Exterior
Bocage's wall lizard has a head-body length of about five to seven centimeters. The tail length is about twice that. It was previously considered a subspecies of the Spanish wall lizard , although it is not as flat as this one. In addition, the body is more robust and the females are longitudinally striped to a lesser extent. The back of the males is often green, the flanks orange-brown with a dark net pattern. This is often limited by light vertical stripes, sometimes with a blue shoulder mark. The belly is whitish to orange and also darkly spotted.
habitat
The lizard can only be found in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula (northwest Spain, northern Portugal), there in the flat and mountainous regions up to an altitude of 1900 meters above sea level. It lives mainly on dry, stony and partially overgrown slopes. However, it does not climb as well as the Spanish wall lizard.
More types
Another species is the Carbonell wall lizard ( Podarcis carbonelli ), which is distributed in two subspecies. ( P. c. Carbonelli , P. c. Berlengsis distribution in blue). Their habitat is in western central Spain and eastern Portugal as well as in southern Spain. Until recently it was considered a subspecies of Podarcis bocagei . It is noticeable that the flanks of the males of this species have a strong green.
