Bochum break

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bochumer Bruch is a lime quarry in Wülfrath that has been closed since 1958 . In contrast to the neighboring Schlupkothen quarry, which is also closed, it is usually not filled with water. In 2006 the German Alpine Association was granted the right to use the quarry, so that year-round climbing is possible here, for example. Only a few parts of the wall are currently approved for climbing and access is limited.

The Bochumer Bruch is a central part of the 22.11 hectare landscape protection area of the Fricken / Frickenhaus quarry ( CDDA no. 555555053; designated 1984). Since 2005 there has been a breeding pair of eagle owls in Bochumer Bruch.
