Post mill in Beelitz

The windmill Beelitz is a technical monument in Beelitz in Potsdam-Mittelmark ( land Brandenburg ).

history

In 1792 the miller Bernau built a post mill . It was used by the family for many generations to grind grain from the surrounding farmers. In the 1930s, an electrically operated grinder was installed and the rod mechanism that was no longer needed was removed. The mill has hardly been used since 1950; 15 years later the company finally ceased. Due to a lack of maintenance work, the building began to deteriorate, which was only stopped in 2003 when a development association was founded. One of the main goals was to resume milling operations.

It turned out that the original space was in the meantime rather unfavorable for rebuilding from a thermal point of view due to the additional buildings over the past 200 years . Since a considerable part of the load-bearing structure had to be replaced anyway, the development association acquired a more suitable plot of land located nearby for the reconstruction. In coordination with the State Office for Consumer Protection, Agriculture and Land Reorganization of the State of Brandenburg, the building permit was granted in July 2005. Previously, funds from the European Union's LEADER + funding program for innovative projects in rural areas were acquired.

First construction phase

In one construction phase, the existing mill was dismantled under the supervision of a specialist company from Wittenburg . The comb wheel was in such poor condition that it had to be rebuilt. At the same time, the newly acquired property was developed and fenced in . This work was completed at the end of October 2005.

Second construction phase

The soil at the original location was renatured in the course of the second construction phase and handed over to the owner at the end of 2005. At the same time, the new mill hill was raised and the foundation for the new mill to be built was built. This work was completed by spring 2006 with the horticultural design of the facility.

Third construction phase

The foundation stone for the new structure was laid on April 7, 2006 . The main structure of the mill was already erected two weeks later, so that the structural analysis was checked for the first time. The topping-out ceremony was held on April 21, 2006. A few weeks later the new pinion with shaft was delivered and installed. The building envelope was completed in mid-July 2006, followed by painting and preservation of all components. The interior work was completed on July 31, 2006. One month later the rods were installed and the entire structure was approved by the building supervisory authority on August 4, 2006.

Fourth section

The trial operation showed that some assembly elements had to be renewed and further technical adjustments to the mill were necessary: The grinding stones had to be replaced and adjustments to the shaft were necessary at the same time. In April 2007, the first stable mill operation was presented at a mill festival.

Todays use

The mill is used regularly; the flour ground in it is taken from a baker and processed further. In addition, the building is accepted as an excursion destination, for example as a place for a marriage ( marriage ), in the region. Around 3,000 to 5,000 visitors visit the mill every year. The development association is therefore considering building an extension with a mill museum, a workshop and a snack bar for around 220,000 euros. However, conservationists have reservations about this project.
