Bodegas Güell , in Catalan Celler Güell , is a winery in Sitges , a seaside resort in the Comarca Garraf in the Spanish province of Barcelona . The architectural complex consists of a cellar building and outbuildings designed by the architect Antoni Gaudí for Eusebi Güell in the modernist style. The ensemble was built between 1895 and 1901 under the direction of Francesc Berenguer, Gaudí's assistant, and was one of the avant-garde buildings in wine architecture .

architecture

The work belongs to Gaudí's neo-Gothic period (1888–1898), a period in which the architect was mainly inspired by the formal language of an idealized medieval image. Gaudí previously dealt extensively with the nature of Catalan, Balearic and Rosellin Gothic. The buildings were largely made of Garrafer limestone and were given a wedge-shaped overall shape with recessed parabolic vaults. There are three floors above the wine cellar. On the first floor a garage, on the second floor the accommodation for the manager and on the top floor a chapel with a terrace overlooking the sea.
