The Lake Constance library in Friedrichshafen is a special library whose main task is to contribute to the promotion of historical and scientific research on Lake Constance and its surroundings. It was founded in 1868 by the “ Association for the History of Lake Constance and its Surroundings ”. In 1971, the association handed over the library to the city of Friedrichshafen on permanent loan.
The collection area includes the northern shore of Lake Constance with Upper Swabia, the state of Vorarlberg, the cantons of St. Gallen, Thurgau, Appenzell and Schaffhausen as well as the Principality of Liechtenstein.
In 2013 the library holdings comprised around 36,000 items.
