Coordinates: 31 ° 34 ' S , 147 ° 12' O Bogan Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area is 14,599.1 km² and has about 2,692 inhabitants.
Bogan is located in the north-western region about 570 km northwest of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprises 33 districts and localities: Babinda, Balgay, Bobadah, Buddabadah, Buttabone Stud Park, Canonbar, Colane, Coolabah, Five Ways, Girilambone, Grahweed, Hermidale, Honeybugle, Merryanbone, Miandetta, Mirilba, Monkey Bridge, Moonagee, Mudall, Mulla, Muriel, Murrawombie, Nyngan, Pangee, Pangee Park, Quinine Park, The Glen, Thorndale, Trowell Creek, Warrigal, Widgeland and parts of Byrock and Canonba. The Shire Council is located in the city of Nyngan in the east of the LGA, where about 2,000 people live.
The geographic center of New South Wales is in the Bogan Shire area.

The Bogan Shire Council has nine members who are elected by LGA residents. Bogan is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
