Bogdan Khmelnitsky Order (Soviet Union)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bogdan Khmelnitsky Order ( Russian Орден Богдана Хмельницкого ) was a military order of the Soviet Union named after Khmelnitsky , a Ukrainian Cossack ataman .

The three-class order was founded on October 10, 1943 by the government under Josef Stalin . In contrast to the other military awards donated during the Second World War, this medal could also be awarded to partisans. In contrast to the Suvorov and Kutuzov medals , this medal was not only awarded to officers. Sergeants, NCOs and ordinary soldiers could also be honored with it.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory over Germany, another three-class award of the same name was donated in the Ukraine in May 1995 .
