Bogdan Dowlasz

Bogdan Dowlasz (born January 8, 1949 in Łódź ) is a Polish accordionist, music teacher and composer.

Dowlasz started playing accordon at the Music Center in Łódź in 1957. He then studied accordion with Mieczysław Mikołajczyk at the State Music Academy and from 1969 to 1974 accordion with Irmgard Sloty-Krieg , as well as music theory and composition with Heinrich Becker and Herbert Kirmße at the Liszt School of Music in Weimar .

After his return to Poland, he taught accordion, instrumentation and propaedeutics of composition at various music schools and colleges, including from 1974 at the State Music Academy (now the Music Academy) Łódź, of which he was rector from 1993 to 1999. He then received the chair for accordion playing and contemporary music and in 2008 became the head of the doctoral program. From 1997 to 2003 he also taught at the University of Łódź ; He also gave master classes in Austria, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Germany, Slovakia and the Czech Republic and gave lectures on the history of the accordion, accordion playing and composition for the instrument at scientific symposiums. As a reviewer for the award of doctoral and professorial titles, he works for the music academies in Gdansk, Katowice, Łódź, Poznan, Warsaw and Czestochowa and the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz.

As a soloist and chamber musician, Dowlasz has performed in Poland and abroad and has given numerous premieres of works by contemporary musicians. He founded and directed the Łódzki Kwintet Akordeonowy , the Łódzka Orkiestre Akordeonowa and (1980–2002) the Trio Łódzkie (with Antoni Wierzbiński , flute and Jerzy Nalepka , guitar) and made many recordings for radio, television, film and theater. His compositional work includes solo and chamber music as well as incidental music, especially (educational) literature for the accordion. He has received several international composition awards, and many of his compositions are a compulsory repertoire of national and international accordion competitions in Poland and abroad.

Among other things, Dowlasz is Vice President of the Main Committee of the Polish Accordion Association and board member of the Association for the Promotion of International Accordion Competitions in Klingenthal. He was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta , the medal of the National Education Commission and a Honored Activist of Culture.
