Bogdan Suchowiak

Bogdan Henryk Suchowiak (born November 29, 1905 in Posen , † July 20, 1991 in Warsaw ) was a Polish survivor of the Neuengamme concentration camp and the bombing of Cap Arcona .

Suchowiak fought in the German invasion of Poland in 1939 as an officer in the Fifth Light Artillery Regiment. He was taken prisoner of war on September 22nd . Suchowiak tried to escape from captivity twice, but only managed the third time; on October 10, 1939, he managed to escape to Posen . However, the Gestapo captured him again on August 7, 1940 and took him to Fort VII in Posen . Suchowiak was deported to Buchenwald concentration camp on August 16 and transferred to Neuengamme concentration camp on December 11, 1940, where he was given prisoner number 3524.

In April 1945 Suchowiak was deported to the ship Cap Arcona and survived the bombing by Allied planes.

After the war he returned to his native Poland and published several books about the Neuengamme camp.
