Bolton [ ˈbɑltən ] is a district of Caledon with almost 30,000 inhabitants in the Canadian province of Ontario . It belongs to the Peel Region and is about 50 kilometers northwest of Toronto , Canada's largest city. Bolton became known as the birthplace and residence of the Canadian rock singer Skye Sweetnam .
history
The settlement, formally known as Bolton Mills, was founded around 1822 when James Bolton was helping his brother George Bolton build a flour mill. In 1857 the community already had 700 inhabitants.
