Three-part Regina multiple unit in Gothenburg

The manufacturer Bombardier describes a series of electric multiple units as Regina .

Use in Sweden

The multiple units have been built as two- and three-part trains since 2000. So far, 70 multiple units have been built, which are used in Swedish regional traffic by a number of regional operators with the series designations X50, X51, X52, X53 and X54. They are approved for top speeds of 200 or 180 km / h, the cars are 345 cm wide. This is compatible with the Swedish vehicle boundary profile, but not with the one in Germany and Denmark.

Swedish speed records

On July 26, 2006, a Regina multiple unit set a new speed record for rail vehicles in Sweden at 281 km / h. It surpassed the previous record of 276 km / h of an X2000 multiple unit .

As part of the Gröna Tåget project , a test train (X52 9062 owned by the owner Transitio ) set a new speed record for Sweden on the Westgötaland route north of Skövde at 303 km / h on September 14, 2008 .

X55 / SJ 3000

In 2008, the Swedish State Railways ordered a further 20 four-car trains, which were to be delivered between April and August 2010, under the X55 series. They have 245 seats, 64 of them in 1st class. Contrary to earlier information, which stipulated a maximum speed of 250 km / h, the multiple units should only be designed for 200 km / h. The purchase price is eleven million euros per train. There is also an option for 20 more trains. The multiple units should be characterized by a particularly high energy efficiency, so that the consumption should be about a fifth below that of the SJ X2 .

The trains with the seating arrangement 2 + 2 (opposite the Regina with 3 + 2) are intended for the routes from Stockholm to Dalarna and Värmland. There they are to replace the SJ X2 multiple units. The first commercial use took place on February 6, 2012 between Stockholm and Sundsvall. In contrast to the internal designation X55, the designation SJ 3000 is used for vehicles in tourist traffic .
