The Swedish research project Gröna Tåget concerned the development of concepts and technologies for an environmentally friendly tilting train for Scandinavia and the Baltic states .

concept

For the development of future high-speed trains, the Swedish Ministry of Transport, universities, railway manufacturers, infrastructure operators and railway companies launched the research project Gröna Tåget ( German  "Green Train" ). The aim of the project, which ran from 2005 to 2012, was the development of concepts and technologies for an environmentally friendly tilting technology train with a top speed of 250 km / h, which is especially suitable for use on existing routes in cold regions. The use should be possible in Sweden, Norway , Denmark , Finland and possibly also in the Baltic states.

As part of the project, a Bombardier Regina test train (X52 9062 owned by the owner Transitio ) set a new speed record for Sweden on the Westgötaland route north of Skövde at 303 km / h on September 14, 2008 .

Part B of the final report of the tax-funded project suggests the following dates for a future high-speed train:

  • Cruising speed 250 km / h
  • Top speed 280 km / h
  • Axle load: 15.9 tons
  • Engine power: 20 kW per ton of towing mass, d. H. 4,800 kW for a 4-part multiple unit and 7,200 kW for a 6-part version
  • Radial adjustment of the axles to minimize tracking forces and thus track wear (in the course of the project, the Bombardier FLEXX Tronic bogies with active wheel set control (ARS) and passive systems (RRS) were tested)
  • Synchronous motors with permanent magnets with air cooling (because of the better power- to- weight ratio compared to the usual asynchronous motors)
  • Drive on at least 50% of the axles
  • Electric brakes that are so strong that only these are used during normal braking (less brake wear and higher energy recovery)
  • Noise level in the trains between 64-67 dB (A)
  • Car height: 3.8 m
  • Car width: 3.54 m

The last-mentioned car dimensions take into account the Scandinavian clearance gauge , which is wider than that in Central Europe . The option of a fifth row of seats was named as the advantage of the larger width, which could reduce the costs per seat by 13% compared to normal seating. The proposed data are vaguely reminiscent of that of the Swiss RABDe 500 multiple unit .

Replacement X2

With the project, fundamental considerations were made as to whether the SJ X2, which was used in Sweden and originated in the 1980s , could be replaced with a new multiple unit based on these findings .
