Bombardino (cocktail)

The Bombardino is an originally Italian egg- based cocktail served warm . The yellow color and the icing are typical . It has been particularly widespread for decades in ski huts and on the Christmas markets of northern Italy ( South Tyrol , Trentino and Lombardy ), but it is also known in the ski areas of Swiss Ticino and the Austrian Ötztal .

ingredients

The first basic ingredient of Bombardino is egg liqueur (Italian "VOV" with marsala as an alcoholic component). The second basic ingredient is traditionally whiskey (“Scozzese”, “Scottish”), which can also be wholly or partially replaced by brandy or rum (“Pirata”, “the pirate”). The mixing ratio of the two basic ingredients varies depending on the recipe and is often between 1: 1 and 2: 1. For the addition of espresso there is the name "Calimero", probably because of the similarity in color to the cartoon chick . There are various other variants, including with milk, sugar, cocoa or cinnamon. The Bombardino is always garnished with a cherry on top .

The recipe with its variants is very similar to the Eggnog of the Anglo-American language area.

Origin and name

The exact origin of the Bombardino is unclear. According to the former boss of several ski huts in Livigno in Lombardy , Erich Ciapponi, it was invented there in 1972.

The name of the Bombardino ("little boob") is said to be derived from one of his first drinkers, who noticed the high temperature and the high alcohol content and compared its effect to that of a small bomb.
