Bonacca , sometimes also called The Cay , is an artificial island about 300 meters off the southeast coast of the island of Guanaja , which belongs to the Islas de la Bahía of Honduras .

Bonacca is an artificial composite of two of coral existing cays with a total land area of almost six hectares . The island is built up with small residential buildings that stand on stilts and are connected to the ground.

There are no roads on Bonacca, only narrow walkways and canals between the wooden buildings. The traffic therefore only takes place with boats. Nevertheless, around 5,000 people live here, and thus almost half of the total population of Guanaja.
