Bonnet (sail)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A bonnet is a sheet of cloth that is used to enlarge the sail area of a square sail . This strip of cloth is tied to the foot of the square sail and removed again if necessary in strong winds .

With individual vehicle types, the bonnet serves as a particularly large foresail, which is similar to the genoa sail and, like the jib sail, can be laid across the ship's axis.

function
