The Bononia Cove (English; Bulgarian залив Бонония saliw Bononija ) is a 3.1 km wide and 1.1 km long bay on the southeast coast of Nelson Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It lies west of Ivan Alexander Point and was created as a result of the glacier retreat on the island at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century .
The Bulgarian Commission for Antarctic Geographical Names named it in 2012 after the Roman city of Bononia in northwestern Bulgaria .
