Bonosus and Maximianus
Bonosus and Maximianus († 308 or 363) are two late ancient martyrs from Arjona , southern Spain . Her feast day is August 21.
Vita
The two brothers (?) Came from the Roman colony of Iliturgi . They joined the army at an early age and took part in the ultimately victorious battles against the rebellious prefect Numerianus from Italica . In thanks they were supposed to sacrifice to the gods in Arjona, but they refused, saying that they were first and foremost soldiers of Christ . They were then detained, tortured, and finally beheaded.
Relics
The relics of the two popular saints were discovered along with other bones in 1628 in the area of the old Roman fortress of Arjona. The then bishop of Jaén Baltasar de Moscoso y Sandoval declared them patron saints of Arjona and had a church of the Holy Sepulcher built.
Adoration
The saints are mentioned in the Martyrologium Romanum , but the editor Baronius mentions the loss of their files. They are little known outside of Arjona; in the second and third week of August there are parades and celebrations in their memory.
presentation
Very few representations of the two saints exist. They are shown as child soldiers or young people, although they are said to have been 21 or 18 years old when they died.
