The club wants to be a link between the members, working groups, regional associations and international bonsai clubs. The most important means of communication are the club magazine Bonsai , which has been published since 1982 and completely redesigned in autumn 2012, and the newly designed Internet forum.

The members work nationwide in more than 100 working groups to improve their skills and to pass them on to interested parties. Regional bonsai exhibitions are regularly organized by the working groups.

The national and largest bonsai exhibition takes place in connection with the annual general meeting at different locations.
