Borazdschan , in English transcription Borazjan ( Persian برازجان), Is a town in County Dashtestan in the province of Bushehr . In 2016 the city had about 111,000 inhabitants.

history

In ancient times the city was still on the Persian Gulf . But the receding water has shifted the coastline 100 km south to what is now the city of Bushehr . This has left large amounts of salt-covered areas from Borazjan to Bushehr. The surrounding landscape was greener in the past, but most of the vegetation has disappeared due to pasture use and the drier climate. Many wildlife such as deer, wild boar, and coyotes lived in the area but are now extinct.

The ruins around the city are over three hundred years old. A citadel built 250 years ago that served as a caravanserai for decades has been converted into a prison over the past 70 years. Many jewels and treasures have been discovered around the city.

In 2013 the city was damaged in an earthquake.

economy

The town's main economic activity is food processing from the crops of the nearby fields. The largest silo in all of southern Iran is in Borazdzhan. It was built with Russian help and completed in 1971. It houses grain that has been shipped there from the surrounding farms. The cultivation of dates as well as the processing and packaging of dates is a very important industry. About half of the dates are transported north to consumers in the rest of the country and half to Bushehr for export to other countries.
