Borbachschlösschen

The Borbachschlösschen is located in the Borbach valley in the Annen district of Witten above the Ruhr in the immediate vicinity of the Hohenstein . The building was erected in 1867. Its subtle architecture is mainly characterized by the Gothic -looking pointed arch and the oriels made of Ruhr sandstone .

history

The building was erected in 1867. The builder and owner was the businessman Johann Gerhard Sticht. In 1912 the building was enlarged considerably and received its formative architectural design to this day. The historicism - stucco ceilings and columns and the Art Nouveau leaded glazing attest to the cultural-historical epochs of the architecture of this building.

In 1939 there was a room in the Borbachschlösschen for church purposes, which was also approved by the Paderborn General Vicariate on April 8, 1939. An altar and a portable confessional were also available to furnish the room, for which a harmonium was purchased for 400 marks . A rent of 30 marks was paid quarterly for the room. Even after the devastation of World War II , the Catholic Church used this hall for its services . In the 1950s, the Borbachschlösschen was a popular garden and excursion restaurant in the Borbach Valley .

Today the Borbachschlösschen is inhabited by the Hasenkamp family, who extensively restored the building. The Hasenkamp family is one of the oldest families in the region. The family comes from Stiepel and Weitmar near Bochum. In the second half of the 15th century Wennemar von Hasenkamp built the knightly seat of the Haus Weitmar family. In the entrance area of the Borbachschlösschen there is now a large-format oil painting by Haus Weitmar in Bochum .

Architecture and equipment

With around 30 rooms, the Borbachschlösschen is one of the smaller country castles of its time. The restored stucco ceilings from the period of historicism and the numerous stucco columns with Ionic capitals give the building a dignified, castle-like character. Today's furnishings include numerous pieces of furniture from the Warrings manufactory and a collection of genre paintings from the 18th century.

The old kitchen and the large hall, which was used as a restaurant until 2010, are located on the ground floor. Today the hall is used for seminars, concerts and readings of the academy in the Borbachschlösschen. A tiled floor on the ground floor and artistic leaded glazing in the bay windows date from the Art Nouveau period.

The vaulted cellar shows the architecture of the 19th century. Large sandstone blocks weighing tons form the foundation of the house and ensure a balanced climate. On the first floor, the “ Beletage ”, the library dominates over an area of more than 300 m². There are more than 3,000 volumes of recent times and around 500 antiquarian books.
