Borland Quattro Pro is a spreadsheet program that was developed by Borland and was mostly used as part of the WordPerfect Office suite . Corel has been selling the product since 1996 . When the product came onto the market in 1988, it was initially called Quattro (the Italian name for "four" as a logical consequence of Lotus 1-2-3 ). Borland changed the name to Quattro Pro from the 1990s release .

history

Borland Quattro

The original program was written mainly in assembler at the DOS level by Adam Bosworth and Lajos Frank . At first it was a commercial flop.

Borland Quattro Pro

A replacement product called "Surpass" was then purchased in Modula-2 . The main developers and programmers Bob Warfield, Dave Anderson, Weikuo Liaw, Bob Richardson and Todd Landis were hired by Borland to ultimately bring Surpass to market under a new name as Quattro Pro .

Bob Warfield's predecessor was "Farsight" from Farsight Technologies. It was one of the first calculation products to have “window windows”. It was written in Modula-2. A special feature was that the printer drivers were compiled directly during installation.

Farsight was very popular in schools as it was around 50% cheaper than Lotus or Excel .

Version 2.0 for DOS

Version 2.0, released in 1990, offered 3D graphics and a solver (Solve For) for the first time.
