WordPerfect Office is an office software ( Office package ) from the Canadian software manufacturer Corel . There are four different package variants: Standard, Professional, Home & Student and Corel Office, which differ in their composition. Version X4 supports the import of the OpenDocument format, but not yet the export, i.e. the saving of WordPerfect documents in the OpenDocument format. You can also import files from the current version of Microsoft Office . Saving in the proprietary formats of Microsoft Office is not possible. Due to the low demand for the German-speaking area, there has been no version in German since X3 - only an English and a French version are available.

history

The first versions were created by WordPerfect Corporation , founded in 1979, for data general computers, and version 2.2 finally also for the IBM PC . The 1989 version of WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS was the most successful of all and replaced the previously successful WordStar as the market leader among word processing programs . In 1991 the first version for Microsoft Windows - WordPerfect 5.1 appeared.

After working closely with Novell over the next three years , WordPerfect was taken over by Novell in June 1994, with the product name WordPerfect still being used for the Office suite. But the acquisition didn't pay off, and Novell sold WordPerfect to Corel in January 1996, losing over $ 200 million in just 18 months.

Context-sensitive operation

In the current versions of the programs WordPerfect , Quattro Pro and Presentations there is a vertical, context-sensitive menu bar on the left edge of the screen. This bar, which Corel calls "Perfect Expert", provides the user with quick access to the basic tasks of the respective application.
