Borsig-Platz (Berlin-Heiligensee)

The Borsig settlement is a housing estate in the Berlin-Heiligensee district , in the Reinickendorf district . It was first called Neu-Heiligensee and is located between the city limits to the state of Brandenburg , Sonnenwalder Weg, Kiefheider Weg and Ruppiner Chaussee. Adjacent to it is the forest settlement built in the 1950s .

history

The development as a factory settlement of August Borsig GmbH in Berlin-Tegel and AEG Hennigsdorf can be traced back to the time before 1928. This applies in particular to the Ziegenorter path traffic routes, parts of the Thurbrucher Steig, the Sagemühler Steig and the Stolpmünder Weg. The row house settlement and the associated allotments, some of which still exist, were built in the Ziegenorter path from 1922 to 1924.

The majority of the settlement with its semi-detached houses typical for the settlement character was built between 1935 and 1938. The settlement was realized by the non-profit settlement cooperative Borsigscher Werksangehöriger eGmbH according to designs by the architect Fritz Buck .

On Borsig-Platz, between the houses Karwitzer path 7a – d and 13a – d, which was originally called Marktplatz, there was a butcher (owner H. Rietig) in Karwitzer path 10 and a baker (owner R . Harder). Together with two post offices, they ensured basic supplies for the settlers.

Development

In 1925, two post offices for the Neu-Heiligensee area were named in the Berlin address book : Post Agency 1, Ruppiner Chaussee and Post Agency 2, Kirsch-Allee 8/9. Another source gives the post office Bln.-Neuheiligensee 1 in Thurbrucher Steig 23 in 1928 , which belonged to the Tegel 1 post office and moved to Ziegenorter path 60 in 1955 (according to other sources, Ziegenorter path 80). From 3 January 1972 there was the post office 1 Bln 520 in Thurbrucher Steig 1, which in 1985 became 1 Bln 275 and was renamed 13503 Berlin 275 on the occasion of the introduction of the five-digit postcodes . In 1998 this was then closed.

At the end of the Sagemühler Steig, approximately at the junction with Freester Weg, was the building of the 17th elementary school, which was inaugurated on October 10, 1923. After the construction of the new building in Stolpmünder Weg 45, this served initially as a day care center and finally as a care facility for the elderly. The new school building was built between 1961 and 1963 and in 1967 was named Ellef Ringnes Elementary School . In the 1990s, the district school administration had a branch for this school built on the Freester Weg 5 property. This was later used by the Martin Luther King School as a makeshift location until the Reinickendorf District Office gave up the building for further use in schools in 2012 and sold it to an investor. The clearance work began in April 2015.

In the night from September 30th to October 1st 2013, the large gym of the Ellef-Ringnes-Grundschule in Stolpmünder Weg burned down completely. Outbuildings were also damaged. In order to continue running the school with physical education, the Senate decided to move to the building of the former Heiligensee primary school at Im Erpelgrund 11-17. Initially, a retreat was planned after the renovation of the gym. A branch use by the Albrecht Haushofer Oberschule , which is located at Kurzebracker Weg 40, was discussed. The Reinickendorf district also considered using it as an emergency shelter for refugees .

On October 16, 1954, the foundation stone of the forest church at Stolpmünder Weg 41 was laid. The following year, on August 7, 1955, the building was inaugurated.

In 1977 GeSoBau began to sell the semi-detached houses to employees of Borsig GmbH. This privatization led to the plan to build a high-rise complex similar to the one in the Märkisches Viertel on the estate. However, the establishment of the BORSIG-Siedlung Siedlergemeinschaft eV prevented radical development and achieved the monument protection stowage for parts of the settlement : for the row houses on Ziegenorter path and on Borsig-Platz. For the other residential buildings, built between 1935 and 1938, a conservation ordinance has existed since 2002 .

Between 2006 and 2008 new single and two-family houses were built on unused areas not far from Borsig-Platz.

Special occurrence

On July 16, 2015, a 125 kg high explosive bomb from World War II was defused in nearby Stolpe-Süd . The restricted area of one kilometer in diameter required for this also encompassed large parts of the Borsig settlement. Residents in this restricted area had to leave their homes.
