Boshi is a neological word creation for "crochet hat". In accordance to the Japanese term Boshi for "cap hat" especially young people mean by it a selbstgehäkelte cap. In the broader sense, however, a purchased hat can also be meant as long as it is handmade.

trend

The trend was triggered by two Franconian students, Thomas Jaenisch and Felix Rohland, who started selling self-crocheted hats in trendy colors after a skiing holiday in 2009. Based on the unlimited color design options, the rapid sense of achievement and the contemplative activity process, a little hype arose .

With the help of the numerous instruction books, every beginner is able to crochet their own individual hat in a short period of time. Toy stores sell simple starter boxes with wool, instructions and needles. The best-selling handicraft book of 2012 was a Boshi crochet book.

Trivia

The teacher at a school for the difficult to educate described a side effect of the Boshi boom: "This is crazy - the biggest chaots who usually only fight each other sit very quietly and crochet."
