Rooster with a single comb

The Bosnian crow , also known as the Berat crows , is a breed of chicken from the Western Balkans , which was also introduced to Turkey by Albanian emigrants. The breed belongs to the south- east European long crane breeds .

history

Long crane breeds have been described in the Balkans for centuries, but the exact origin of the Bosnian crow remains unknown. In 2004 the zoologist Michael Reimann bought two roosters and one hen in Istanbul , which then formed the basis for a small population in Germany .

properties

The body shape of the Bosnian crow is slender, erect and strong and is similar to that of the Kosovar crow . The only color is white with green runs. The long neck, which curves forward at the top, is striking. There is a variant with a rose comb as well as a single comb. The crow call is shorter than that of the Kosovo and Denizli crow and corresponds more to that of the mountain crow .

Special association

The breed is looked after by the same special association as the Bergischer Kräher and Kosovo Crows : the association of breeders of Bergischer chicken breeds and their dwarf crows breeders association since 1884 .
