Special association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A special association (often abbreviated to SV) is an association of purebred poultry breeders . The members of the special teams dealing with the breeding of chickens breed, breed bantams, geese breed, breed ducks, turkeys and racial -perlhühnern, race quails or pigeons . Special associations are active nationwide and are organized in the professional associations of the Federation of German Purebred Poultry Breeders . They usually specialize in breeding one breed or a few breeds that belong together.

history

After Robert Oettel had founded the "Hühnerologische Verein Görlitz" in 1852, pedigree poultry breeding in Germany became very popular towards the end of the 19th century and many local poultry and small animal breeding associations were established. At the same time, breeders of the same breed organized themselves into special associations. This phenomenon has not only been observed in Germany, but also in many other European countries and in the United States of America.

Objectives

In contrast to local associations that look after breeders of all races, the special associations specialize in one or a few breeds that belong together. For example, the “Association of Breeders of Bergischer Chicken Races and their Dwarfs” deals with the rare breeds Bergischer Schlotterkamm , Bergischer Kräher , Bergischer Zwergschlotterkamm and Bergischer Zwergkräher . The "Special Association of Breeders of the Steinheimer Bagdettes " specializes in one breed of pigeons and the "Special Association of Breeders of the Striped Wyandotten Chicken" has only dedicated itself to one color of the Wyandot .

The work of the special associations is focused on improving the animals of the breed under care with regard to the description of the pattern and also on keeping them productive. They also try to spread the races and promote breeding communities. They look after the breeds, arrange breeding animals and organize breed-specific special shows. Annual summer meetings for the exchange of breeding experiences, for animal discussions and technical discussions are an essential part of the association's work.

In cooperation with the Federal Breeding and Recognition Committee (BZA) of the Federation of German Pedigree Poultry Breeders , the special associations update the pedigree poultry standards . In addition, they train specialized special judges who evaluate the animals of the breed at special shows and major national and European shows. Special judges and breed wardens inform the club members about the breeding status of the animals, which characteristics need to be improved, which are to be excluded from breeding or which are to be preserved.

In the case of old or endangered poultry breeds , the special associations have an important supporting role in the conservation of genetic resources. Both breeding lines of live animals and frozen genetic material in the form of kyroreserves are important here . So were Krüper and East Frisian seagulls appropriate special teams the first roosters, semen was frozen in the federally funded project "Kryoreserve the chicken" for the preservation and dissemination of rare genetic material.

Specialty clubs

The counterpart of a special association is in small animal breeders as a special club called. In pedigree poultry breeding, clubs, informal associations, are few breeders of a breed, and are often the forerunners of special clubs. It is also part of the name of mostly younger special associations such as the “ Lausitzer Elsterpurzler Club”.
