The Lausitzer Purzler is a breed of domestic pigeon belonging to the group of bottlenose dolphins with good flight characteristics. The pigeons of this breed tumble in flight, they overturn once or twice. The Lausitzer Purzler belong to the oldest German pigeon breeds as a follow-up breed to the "Lausitzer Elsterpurzler" .

features

The Lusatian Purzler is a lively, flightworthy pigeon with a magpie markings, which can be counted among the dual-purpose breeds , as it combines pedigree pigeon breeding and aerobatic flying . It is one of the few tumbler breeds whose majority of the animals still "tumble", overturning in the air during the flight.

The Lausitzer Purzler is a pigeon with a small, relatively short, compact figure. He is placed medium high with an almost horizontal, slightly sloping posture. The head is well arched. Its highest point is in front of the eye. The beak is strong. Further breeding goals are a wide wing shield and a long breast cut.

The breeders limit themselves to the colors black, red, yellow and blue peeled. Since 2012, the colors Dun-geelstert and Blaufahl-geelstert have been recognized.

Origin and creation

The Lusatian Purzler descend from particularly strong tumbling animals of the Indian emperor Akbar I (1542-1605). Danish bottlenose dolphins were already known in Copenhagen in 1669 , and they came to Germany in the 18th century. In the 19th and 20th centuries, pigeons with Elsterscheckung were at home in a wide variety of areas in Germany . Breeders in central and western southern Germany were particularly active. The Elsterpurzler breed developed from their pigeons .

After the war , breeding friends in East and West built new breeds with the remaining specimens, whose breeding ideas were largely the same until the 1960s. In southern Germany the Elsterpurzler were also known as Alt- or Süddeutsche Elsterpurzler and so there were attempts in the 1950s to rename the breed to "Süddeutsche Elsterpurzler". They failed in the Federal Breeding and Recognition Committee of the BDRG , which refused its approval. Possibly these efforts were the impetus in the East German area of validity, in which up to now no Elsterpurzler was recognized to breed a local Elsterpurzler with the local Oberlausitz lofts called "Burzlertaube" (also). In 1957 the breed "Lausitzer Elsterpurzler" was recognized as a breed. A special association followed in 1958.

The construction of the wall in 1961 prevented an exchange of the breeders. In 1963 another special association was founded in Hornberg in the Black Forest . Different breeding attitudes developed under the given conditions. In the GDR, a rising forehead and good coverage of the eye rims were required for ratings. In the case of the West German Elsterkröpfern, constant cross-breeding of Danish bottlenose dolphins resulted in flatter heads, sagging beaks, longer necks and legs. At the National Poultry Show in Nuremberg in 1989, two different Elsterpurzler breeds were actually exhibited. At first there were also efforts to bring the two locally colored types back together in one breed, the "Elsterpurzler". The Lusatian should grow in the southern German breeding direction and experience adjustments. The Lusatian regular breeders wanted to combine beauty and performance with their breeding goal, but they wanted to remain true to the Lausitz type and maintain its flight characteristics.

After nine years of legal dispute, the Lausitzer Purzler was finally recognized in the Association of German Pedigree Poultry Breeders in 2011. Its standard, which is also Europe standard, largely corresponds to the breeding efforts of the 1989 turnaround time was current. The European list of pedigree pigeons leads the Lausitzer Elsterpurzler with the number 953.

Compatibility of standard and flight quality

Due to the local conditions in Lower and Upper Lusatia with a relatively high density of birds of prey , the Lusatian tumblers were probably already exposed to relatively high hunting pressure during the breeding phase and had to adapt due to their high agility and quick start. The Lausitzer Elsterpurzlerclub has set itself the goal of maintaining these flight characteristics. In addition to the performance price for the pure exhibition evaluation, the “Purzlerband” has been awarded for a combination of standard quality and flight ability typical of the breed since 2007. Tricks are scored. Three pigeons are jointly by air box or blow started, the need to return to the aerobatic within one hour. In addition, the pigeons must be exhibited and judged in a special show by the Lausitzer Club. A point system should ensure that one-sided breeding is avoided.
