Bothwell is a small town in the center of the Australian state of Tasmania . It is located on the Clyde River and the 2011 census found a population of 391. It belongs to the Local Government Area Central Highlands Municipality .

Known for hunting, the town is near the larger Midlands Lakes on Lake Highway (A5).

From 1848 the Irish nationalist leaders John Mitchel and John Martin were in exile here for a few years. Her former home, Nant Cottage , can still be seen today.

Bothwell has the oldest golf course in Australia, Ratho , which was laid out in the 1850s.
