The Boulton & Paul P.71A was a twin-engine, double-decker mail and airliner made by the British manufacturer Boulton & Paul Ltd in the 1930s. Only two copies were built.
history
Boulton & Paul developed the P.71A on behalf of Imperial Airways . The all-metal aircraft was based on the P.64 Mailplane , but was lighter and had a slimmer and longer fuselage. This consisted of steel and duralumin and was covered with fabric. Two Armstrong Siddeley Jaguar IVA engines served as drive . The rigid tail wheel chassis was given a streamlined cladding. The closed cockpit offered space for a pilot and a radio navigator on two seats arranged side by side.
The first flight took place on September 19, 1934, in February 1935 it was delivered to Imperial Airways. The machines originally ordered for the airmail service were set up as VIP transporters and equipped with seven removable seats. In the passenger version, up to thirteen passengers could be carried.
The first aircraft with the registration G-ACOX and the name "Boadicea" crashed on September 25, 1936 over the English Channel . Both crew members of the plane traveling by airmail from London to Paris were killed. The second machine, G-ACOY "Britomart", was lost on October 25, 1935 in an accident in Brussels .
