Bourette

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bourette (French Bourrette, bourre : Füllhaar, Flock) is a silk yarn , the wastes from Schappe - spinning is obtained. The short fibers (max. 60 mm) are heavily interspersed with pods , which makes the medium-fine to coarse bourette yarn dull and rough. The silk fabric obtained by bourette or silk mill spinning in the two-cylinder process is similar to linen and is mainly used as decoration fabric and for textiles.

properties

In contrast to reel silk , which is unwound from the silk spinner cocoon in a long thread, and Schappeseide , which consists of longer silk fibers, Bourette cannot be completely cleaned of silk glue. The silk glue holds the cocoons of the silk moth together and is also responsible for the characteristic smell that the bourette silk is retained.

Another characteristic of Bourette is the nubby structure interspersed with nodules. These properties make the fabric rather uninteresting for the fashion industry. Due to the high content of silk glue, however, the fabric is said to have an anti-inflammatory effect. Bourette is therefore often used in the manufacture of baby diapers and nursing pads.
