The Bouvier des Ardennes is medium-sized with up to 62 cm and 35 kg, with a shaggy coat made of medium-length outer hair with a very dense undercoat , which provides good weather protection for the dog. All colors except white are permitted according to the standard . The ears are hairy, standing or drooping. The Bouvier des Ardennes has a rough character and appearance. He is suspicious of strangers. He is an intelligent and obedient working dog . Originally he was used to guard and drive herds of cattle, but also works with sheep, where his speed benefits him. The breed was also used as a hunting dog .
