Life

After concert tours through the Soviet Union, he studied with Lucien Capet in Paris from 1926 , with Eugène Ysaÿe in Brussels from 1928 and with Efrem Zimbalist in Philadelphia from 1930 . At that time he was one of the last representatives of the so-called Franco-Belgian violin school.

Brodsky taught from 1932 to the age of 89 at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia . Accordingly, he exerted a great influence on the development of violin playing in the 20th century. Hilary Hahn , Leila Josefowicz and Judith Ingolfsson are among his students . Instead of making his students copies of himself, he encouraged the development of his own style. He was the first violinist of the Curtis String Quartet for 60 years .
