Lucien Capet

Lucien Louis Capet (born January 8, 1873 in Paris , † December 18, 1928 there ) was a French violinist , composer and music teacher .

life and work

Lucien Capet was a student of Jean-Pierre Maurin at the Paris Conservatory from 1888 to 1893 .

In 1896 he became solo violinist in the orchestra of Charles Lamoureux . From 1899 he worked as a teacher at the Conservatoire de Sainte Cécile Bordeaux . In 1907 he became head of the chamber music class at the Paris Conservatory. In 1924 he was appointed director of the Institute de Violon in Paris. He also performed as a soloist until 1921. From 1893 he led the Quatuor Capet , which achieved world fame with the performance of Beethoven's string quartets.

As a teacher, Capet particularly encouraged the development of bow technique. Capet composed five string quartets, two violin sonatas, the aria for violin, viola and piano, and violin studies. He also wrote the Poème for violin and orchestra , Devant la mer for voice and orchestra, the Prélude religieux for orchestra, the symphonic poem Le Rouet and Psalm 23 for solos, choir and orchestra.
