Bovo I.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bovo I. († 890 ) was Abbot of Corvey from 879/80 to 890 .

Based on privileges and documents that said that Corvey was only subordinate to the Pope, Bovo fought for the monastery to be independent from the diocese of Paderborn . At his instigation, the issue was discussed at a church assembly in Mainz in 888. The Pope ultimately ruled in Corvey's favor. However, this meant only a temporary success, as Corvey's independence from Paderborn was repeatedly called into question. Bovo acquired a number of properties for his monastery. During his time, the Metelen Monastery, founded by Corvey, was confirmed . Adam von Bremen mentions an author with this name who wrote a paper about the events of his time; possibly it was this Bovo, but also Bovo II. and Bovo III. called.
