Under Brachyphalangie is generally understood as the abnormal shortening of a limb from fingers or toes, but also partly a reduction of metacarpal or metatarsal. The term is synonymous with brachydactyly , which has been classified into numerous subtypes

One distinguishes the

  • Brachytelephalangia : shortening of the terminal phalanx
  • Brachymesophalangia : shortening of the middle phalanx. In the hand, the 5th finger is usually affected, often found in patients with short stature .
  • Brachybasophalangia : shortening of the base limb .
  • Brachymetacarpy describes the shortening of the metacarpal bones
  • Brachymetatarsia describes the shortening of the metatarsal bones
