Brachypelma boehmei is aspecies ofMexican tarantula that is found in the coastal region of Guerrero .
features
The tarsi on the legs are brown. The metatarsus , tibia and patella are colored orange. The femora of the legs are black. The carapace is ocher in color. The abdomen is dark brown and has several orange hairs.
Way of life and behavior
The animals occur in sloping terrain that is shaded with trees, bushes and boulders. With suitable conditions, there are many animals in a small area (around 50 per hectare).
It is one of the ground-dwelling tarantulas . The animals hide under roots, pieces of bark, stones or fallen leaves. In the colder months as well as during molting and brood care, it retreats into caves that it lines with spider silk.
They feed on small insects like beetles or caterpillars. The female's cocoon is filled with around 800 eggs.
Keeping in the terrarium
The animals have been kept in terrariums since they were described and also bred regularly.
