background

This festival was announced by Joey DeMaio, the bassist from Manowar , during the last Germany concert of the Demons, Dragons & Warriors tour on March 31, 2007 in the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle in Stuttgart . It was conceived as a thank you to the Manowar fans because the release of the album Gods of War was delayed and the tour therefore had to be postponed twice (first from April 2006 to December 2006, then again to March 2007). Hence the low admission price of 10 euros per day.

2007

Originally, the Magic Circle Festival was supposed to only last one day (July 7th 2007), but due to popular demand another day was added (July 6th 2007), with the majority of the bands performing on both days. In November 2007 a recording of the festival was released on DVD . During the Manowar show on July 7th, 2007, Joey DeMaio announced that it was not a one-time thank you. Rather, the Magic Circle Festival should establish itself as an annual festival, which is why DeMaio has already confirmed the second festival for 2008 and also announced details of the festival schedule.

2008

The Magic Circle Festival 2008 began on Wednesday, July 9th, 2008 with the burning of the old wooden ship from the last tour. On that day, a new Guinness world record was set with 139 dB. The festival ended on Saturday, July 12th, 2008. On Thursday, Alice Cooper headlined. During the festival the bands Whitesnake and Def Leppard , who were originally announced as co-headliners, were canceled . Krypteria came to an appearance as a replacement at short notice. During the festival, Manowar played their first six studio albums live in chronological order and distributed a free single called Die With Honor, which was produced in an edition of 20,000 copies, to their fans.

2009

The supporting program of the one-day Magic Circle Festival 2009 on July 18, 2009 already began on July 17, 2009 a. a. with an autograph session, a lecture by Wolfgang Hohlbein on the project "The Asgard Saga" and the AC / DC cover band Heatseekers. While Manowar was still performing, Joey DeMaio informed the audience that the Magic Circle Festival 2010 would no longer take place on the Loreley. Wolfgang Hohlbein was introduced to Joey DeMaio by the music journalist and private investor Ralf Buxa in 2007 during the first festival, because the latter had a collaboration between Manowar and Wolfgang Hohlbein in mind. In 2008, at the end of the 2nd festival, Wolfgang Hohlbein, its managers Dieter Winkler and Ralf Buxa were introduced to the fans and the joint project "Asgard Saga" was announced. In July 2010 Ralf Buxa got out of the "Asgard Saga". He will make investments in the area of 3D films (e.g. "Robin Hood-Ghosts of Sherwood") and contribute to 3D productions for the private sector and continue to support Wolfgang Hohlbein.

2010

It took place in a unique cooperation on July 11, 2010 following the Metalcamp in Tolmin , Slovenia , on the same site. This year the supporting program included a. a broadcast of the final of the soccer World Cup in South Africa on a large screen. Manowar also signed autographs for a whole day the day before. It was the band's first gig in Slovenia. The ticket quota was limited to 12,000 tickets.
