Brak ( Arabic براك, sometimes also Biraq , Italian brach ) is a city in the municipality of Wadi asch-Shati ' in western central Libya . It is the administrative center of the district.

The city still had a population of 39,444 in 2004 and is home to the technical college of the University of Sabha . Most of the new development in the city takes place in the north of the old city center, which has gardens and forts from the Italian and Ottoman periods.

In the north of the city is the Brak asch-Shati 'airfield (IATA code: BCQ), which is also used as an air force base.
