Branko Horvat

Branko Horvat (born July 24, 1928 in Petrinja ; † December 18, 2003 ) was a Yugoslav or Croatian economist and politician.

Life

Branko Horvat was the son of the surgeon Artur Horvat (1895–1980). He studied economics at the University of Zagreb , where he received his doctorate in 1955 . In 1963 he founded the Institute of Economics in Belgrade , which he headed until 1970. From 1975 he was professor of economics at the University of Zagreb.

From 1989 Branko Horvat was chairman of the UJDI (Association for a Yugoslav Democratic Initiative), in 1992 he founded the Socijalnodemokratska unija (Social Democratic Union), of which he became chairman.
