literature

A poem by an unknown author with the title The Baked Apple is considered an Upper German folk good and is often read or recited at Christmas time. It starts with the lines

“Children, come and guess
what's roasting in the oven! ... "

and ends with the child-friendly word games:

"... the tip, the
cone,
the croissant, the cap, the crispy apple."

The poem was probably written by Fritz and Emily Kögel and was probably first published in the children's book Noah 's Ark published by Teubner (Leipzig) in 1901 .
