Roast (dish)
A roast is a large piece of meat that is suitable for roasting or the fully cooked piece of meat.
The noun roast comes from the Old High German brato for "sheer meat, soft parts" and is not related to the verb roast . Nevertheless, the term has been used since Middle High German for "fried meat". The original meaning is still preserved in words such as venison , sausage meat and bratwurst .
Christmas roast
In German Christmas tradition , it is common for a roast to be served on the Christmas holidays . This is often a Christmas goose, but the Christmas carp and the Mettensau are also common .
